The Picoforte

The higher end of the market for iPod speaker systems varies wildly in price and quality, but this stylish model from KEF is a good choice for audiophiles. The Picoforte One is compact and elegant, comprising an iPod dock, 50W amplifier module and two 25W speakers, all made from die-cast zinc in a glossy black or white finish, which gives it a pleasing weight and sturdiness. The system is compatible with all iPods and there is a line-in port to which you can hook up any MP3 player or device that uses at 3.5mm jack. To beef up the sound even more, an optional KEF subwoofer (about £150) will add a throaty bass.
