Investing in rare coins

Perhaps you have heard that investing in rare coins and selling them at a higher price is a sure way to pay for your coin collecting hobby and even make some extra money while you are at it.

Yes you can invest in rare coins like the morgan dollar and make money, BUT you need to know what you are doing. While this game plan can work out, coin collecting as an investment is not without risks. You cannot expect to buy just any coin and expect to have people beating a path to your door to buy it.

You have to watch out for fake and counterfeit coins. It is all too easy to be taken in and purchase a counterfeit coin. You would be well advised to invest with stablished companies to avoid frauds.

Three tips to reduce your cell phone bills

Average cell phone bills for some customers are now as high as $60, $70 and even $80 -- and that's just for one phone. Here you can learn three tips to reduce your cell phone bills:

- The biggest waste is cell phone insurance. Unless you have a really fancy phone that's worth hundreds of dollars, it isn't worth paying $5 a month for insurance, which often requires a $50 deductible as well.

- One consumer group estimated the average household pays $200 a year more than it should because of overcharging by phone companies.

- Who's calling you most of the time? If it's family or friends, find out what cell phone company most of them are using and join it too.

Blu-ray must be able to compete effectively with HD DVD on price

Market research firm Forrester Research, which has long predicted that Sony's Blu-ray system will eventually win out over Toshiba's HD DVD as the format of choice for high-definition home video, expressed concern over Sony's strategy. In its latest report, Forrester analyst J.P. Gownder maintained that Blu-ray must be able to compete effectively with HD DVD on price and that if it does not, it can lose its current edge. Gownder said that Blu-ray must introduce a player below $250 by Christmas and be more aggressive in promoting the system. Meanwhile, Home Theater Specialists of America, a group of specialty HDTV dealers and installers, announced that its members would only be installing Blu-ray players from now on. The announcement came as a study was released indicating that Blu-ray was already installed in 92 percent of home-theater installations in the U.S.

Recruiting search

Hiring managers is no easy task. It can take dozens of hours placing ads, reading through resumes, and interviewing people to identify the right person for the job. If you find your company is having no luck in landing a candidate, or if you have trouble giving your recruiting search the attention it requires, you may want to consider hiring an executive recruitment firm.

These companies work to match candidates with jobs, taking on the responsibility of the search and screening process for you. Of course, the ultimate decision to hire remains up to you. Executive recruiters can recruit individuals who are currently employed, whether they are passively looking for a job or not even in the hunt.

Unloc ked phones advantages

You can buy one through an independent retailer - a mobile phone manufacturer like Nokia or an online store that specializes in such devices - and then sign up for month-to-month service with a mobile operator of your choice. Or you can ask your carrier to unlock your existing phone once your contract has ended. Most will agree to do it.

Unlocked phones have several advantages: You're not enslaved to a lengthy contract, and you can use them on multiple networks, including many of those found overseas. With a locked phone, however, you're stuck with one network and pricey roaming fees when traveling abroad. Unlocking a phone is easy, assuming your existing carrier agrees to do it. A rep simply punches in an electronic code that "frees" your device from the company's network.

Myspace launch free cell phone version

The social networking Web site MySpace is launching a free, advertising-supported cell phone version as part of a wider bid by parent News Corp. to attract advertising for mobile Web sites. Fox Interactive Media, which oversees News Corp.'s Internet properties, also plans to roll out versions of FoxSports.com, the gaming site IGN, AskMen and its local TV affiliates in the coming months that will work on cell phones that can access the Internet. The company plans to offer a mobile version of its Photobucket picture sharing site in coming months. The company already offers premium, subscription-based versions of MySpace through AT&T Inc. and Helio wireless services. Those versions include special features integrated into specific handsets, such as uploading cell phone photos directly to a user's profile page.

Wedding Planning

There were some weddings that were extremely expensive and went as far as renting a white horse and carriage, and then there were others that were simple, elegant back yard parties with mainly family and a few friends.

The main purpose of joining your heart and soul with someone is because you love that person and you have common goals and aspirations in life. Your wedding ceremony itself has nothing to do with the party, the food or the people. Having family and friends present is simply to allow them the privilege of sharing your sacred union. The bottom line; it's all about you and your betrothed.

Wedding Planning on a budget does not mean that you have to do it without taste or style. It simply means you have gathered your own resources in order to save you a few extra dollars.

Nokia new phone model 6301

Nokia unveiled its new phone model 6301, which features unlicensed mobile access (UMA) technology. The new model would begin shipping in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2007 at an estimated retail price of 230 euros ($322), before subsidies and taxes. UMA handset users can make calls over the Internet when they are in range of an unlicensed wireless network, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. When they move out of range, the connection will automatically revert to a GSM, GPRS or UMTS mobile phone network. Nokia started its first tests on UMA technology in July last year and it has already launched its 6086 UMA phone.

LG launches LX97WH with DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD support. LG makes your gamble for the next generation optical storage format a little easier. The company has launched a PC that supports both high-definition disc formats with an optical drive that can read both and of course also supports DVD. This is surprising as LG was known as a supporter of the Blu-ray format. The LX97WH computer has also a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, a Nvidia Geforce 8 series video card and comes in an 8.9cm-slim PC case. Unfortunately no pricing and availability information available yet but we will know it early.

Motorola can’t lift his stock price

Motorola rode high for a while on sales of its slim, stylish Razr phone. When its competitive edge started to dull, the company set its hopes on the Q, a BlackBerrylike e-mail phone, which it initially thought would sell as well as the Razr. Now, with Motorola's position as the world's No. 2 cell phone maker in jeopardy, it has brought out a thoroughly reworked Razr, and jazzed up its Q with more music-oriented features. Unfortunately for Motorola, neither of the new phones feels like a winner that's going to bolster the company's stock price, which is down 35 percent from its high of $26.30 set last year.

New system for free calls

A Silicon Valley startup will begin selling $399 gadgets in the United States that consumers with broadband Internet service can use to make unlimited free domestic phone calls. Backed by US$27 million in venture capital, Ooma Inc. has distributed 1,500 beta units, which have handled 325,000 calls. The system works like to peer-to-peer and distributed computing through both cable and DSL lines. While traditional phone switches connect a local toll call or a long-distance call through the public switched telephone network, Ooma uses the Internet to connect the long distance portion of calls for free. Users plug a white machine smaller than a macaroni-and-cheese box between their home's broadband connection and a primary telephone. They can connect a secondary phone using an Ooma "Scout," to cost US$39 each. The system relies on a patent-pending software code.

Soviet Union in the WWW

Russian Internet enthusiasts are locked in a tussle with an international body over a relic of the Soviet past -- the .su domain name assigned to the country just before the Soviet Union collapsed. The U.S.-based body that oversees the World Wide Web's structure, ICANN, says the name is out of date and wants to kill it off. But thousands of Internet users still use the suffix -- in part for its nostalgia value -- and are fighting to save it.

Though nearly 16 years have passed since the end of the Soviet Union, .su is increasingly popular with businesses, clubs and political groups and Russian lobbyists said they had started negotiations with ICANN to keep it.

Motorola, Nokia and Sun Microsystems separate paths for the future of cell phone software

Java giants Motorola, Nokia and Sun Microsystems are plowing separate paths for the future of cell phone software. The widening divergence in their commercial Java products--and differences of opinion about how to keep Java open--threatens to fracture the broad community of Java developers. Sun last week announced Java Mobile FX, a high-end software package for cell phones based largely on desktop Java software it recently acquired from Savaje Technologies. Sun also disclosed its plans for making Java open source. Motorola and Nokia executives said news of the Sun mobile software took them by surprise. They also expressed concerns about some of the details of Sun's open-source plans. The two companies are basing their Java road maps on software drawn from separate pools of open-source software.

Communications-as-a-service

Communications-as-a-service isn't exploding out of the starting gate, however, is lack of provider knowledge. Providers are still trying to determine to whom to define, package and market services as a value-added IP telephony offering. Communications-as-a-service as IP telephony that is located within a third-party datacenter and managed and owned by a third party. The assets are not carrier-grade, the service is not in the network, and the assets are multi-tenant in terms of usage. But the growth of communications-as-a-service within corporations will take off once users find its true usability. It will grow further as companies realize they won't run the risks associated with having their own in-house communications systems.

Nokia announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to buy Enpocket, whose technology platform and business partnerships Nokia expects will allow it to rev up its products and services in mobile advertising, a market poised for robust growth. The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal. Online cash advance

Applying for online payday loans offers several advantages over applying at a traditional payday loan storefront. Payday loan applicants apply directly from their home or office computers via the Internet, never having to stand in line and wait in a crowded store. Many people choose to apply for online cash advance for personal reasons, because they simply do not feel comfortable going to a store specializing in payday loans and check cashing.

The online payday loans application process can also be a significant time saver. In-store applications must be handwritten, and completed entirely in the store. If an applicant does not have all the required information and paperwork they are unable to complete the application and the loan cannot be processed. Online payday loans applicants may pause while filling out the application form and take time to locate the required information.

Beware of cell phones frauds

Many of the major cell-phone carriers hold consumers responsible for all calls made on their phone until the phone is reported missing or stolen. Although some say they review fraud claims individually, several carriers have policies stipulating that consumers are on the hook for all charges -- fraudulent or not -- until phone service is suspended. The Federal Communications Commission reports that in 2006, about one-third of the roughly 20,000 complaints about wireless service had to do with disputes about billing and rates, of which complaints about fraudulent charges make up an unspecified part. There are ways consumers can protect themselves from cell-phone fraud. For example, it's possible to put a password guard on a cell phone, so that turning it on requires a secret code. Also, if you don't typically use your phone to make international calls -- which can quickly, ring up to hundreds of dollars in charges -- you can ask your carrier to block outgoing international calls. Cell-phone companies stress that notifying them that a phone is missing is key to preventing or minimizing fraud.

Pornography on cellular phones

Pornography on cellular phones, already a multi-million dollar business in Europe, is showing signs of coming to the United States. Bigger screens and faster networks make video feeds, including x-rated fare, a growing opportunity for the cellular industry, and executives are wondering whether they can afford to stay out of it. American cellular companies and their trade groups are looking at ratings system similar to movies for marking content available on phones, a first step towards what is sure to be a politically charged debate over whether cell phone sex sells in the United States alongside ring tones and video games.

Music for money or for ads?

For $0 a month in cash, I can download a sizable selection of music to my Playsforsure (Creative Zen Vision M) music player, but I have to spend my rare and precious time watching advertisements. Right off the bat, the real economic cost of this service based upon my opportunity costs is over $50 per month without exaggeration.

Or, I can pay $15 a month for Rhapsody or Napster and not have to spend my time being subjected to advertisements. $15 a month, which, and let's be honest, is not a lot of money to have access to a library of millions of songs.

High radio frequencies to transfer huge data files over short distances

While Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have emerged as efficient ways to zap small amounts of data between gadgets, neither is well suited for quickly transferring high-definition video, large audio libraries and other massive files. Georgia Electronic Design Center has turned to extremely high radio frequencies to transfer huge data files over short distances. The high frequencies — which use the 60 gigahertz band — have been a mostly untapped resource. Researchers say it could one day become the conventional wireless way to zap data over short distances. It could soon become a rival to other wireless technologies. Getting government permission to use the spectrum would not be a problem, since that radio band, much like the one used for Wi-Fi, is unlicensed. Because the range will likely be less than 33 feet, interference is less likely and transmissions could be more secure.

Call and send text messages from your mobile phone and use the Internet during flights. Coming soon in Shenzhen, China

Shenzhen Airlines passengers will soon be able to use their mobile phones and connect to the Internet during flights. Swiss-based technology firm OnAir, which is providing the service, will allow travelers to call and send text messages from their mobile phones and access the Internet on laptops during flights. The company aimed to set up the service on the airline, which is based in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, by mid-2009. They hope three demonstrator aircraft will be in use by the Beijing Olympics next year. Shenzhen will be the first Chinese airline to offer the service. OnAir has previously signed deals with various European and Asian airlines that want to carry the technology. Airlines have previously provided onboard air-to-ground fixed telephones on some seats at a premium charge. But until now they have banned the use of mobiles.

Business credit card

Three years ago it was easy. You wanted a credit card that was interest-free and you got one. Millions of consumers became fully fledged "rate tarts" as they rode the wave of 0% deals that swept the country as interest rates sank to historically low levels.

But now rates are high again and good business credit card deals look like a thing of the past. However there are some companies with great deals yet. The trick is to explore new offers to take advantage of this competitive market.

Banks are continuously searching for new customers and you can find great opportunities if you are informed.

$30 to $60 tax refund -on the phone tax-

Would you like some money? The IRS says it’s not too late for taxpayers to collect on the phone tax. Most phone customers – including most cell phone users – qualify for the one-time excise tax refund. It’s good for about a $30 to $60 refund. Taxpayers have a choice: a standard refund amount between $30 and $60, based on the total number of exemptions claimed on their 2006 tax return, to eliminate the need to locate old phone bills; or they can locate those bills and use the actual amount.

The Telephone Excise Tax Refund (TETR) is a one-time payment available on your 2006 federal income tax return. It is designed to refund previously collected long distance telephone taxes. Individuals, businesses and tax-exempt organizations are eligible to request it.

Sell your old cell phone

If you just bought an iPhone or you've upgraded to a flashier model, don't toss your old cell phone in the trash just yet. What you don't want -- others do. Several local companies are on a mission to keep cell phones out of landfills where they will disintegrate and the battery and other dangerous substances will be exposed to the soil and groundwater. Some companies collect the phones and sells them to a third party in the United States or overseas to be refurbished. Other phones are recycled for their precious metals, including gold and silver.

Verizon Wireless offers recycling and refurbishing. After discovering that the average amount of time people keep a cell phone is only 18 months before upgrading, the company began a national recycling program in 2001.

NOD32

Yes, you know, an anti-virus program look at the contents of each file, searching for specific patterns that match a profile - called a virus signature - of something known to be harmful.

The firewall can check whether a given packet should pass, allowing the computer’s user to respond to unanticipated network traffic. The firewall can filter packets based not only on their point of origin or destination, but also on their content.

However, you can buy a program like the NOD32 with all these functions integrated, or you can try to obtain some security software like anti-virus, firewall, and file encryption programs, each one in separate complicated packages.
