Online Learning

There are some major advantages to online education, including the ability to set your own study time. You may be looking for a promotion or career change that requires additional training or you may simply be ready to learn something new. But with today's busy lifestyle, there's little time to devote to regularly scheduled class time. That's where Online Learning from Capella University can be a great asset for a motivated person.

The fact that you are working on your own could very well be one of the major advantages of taking online educational classes, because you don’t need to follow the other’s trend.

Chumby

If you cross an alarm clock, a picture frame and an Internet radio player with a gerbil, you would get the Chumby, possibly the least threatening-looking electronic device ever. It's a tiny computer enclosed in a stuffed leather pillow the size of two fists, but much less aggressive. The 6-inch LCD screen is touch-sensitive, and shows pictures, news headlines, games, incoming e-mail and other snippets of infotainment from the Internet.

It retrieves these goodies via Wi-Fi, so you need a home hotspot to use the Chumby. It needs to be plugged in to a power outlet, so don't start dreaming of using the Chumby as a squishy, $179.95 substitute for an iPhone. But it can replace your alarm clock, rousing you with podcasts, Internet radio, or music you load on a USB drive. It can play your iPod's MP3s through the built-in speakers. You can put it on the kitchen counter as a Web radio that shows pictures from your Flickr account when you're not listening.

Check your internet speed

Many factors can affect your speed, like general Internet congestion, slow Web sites, the number of other users on the provider’s network or your computer’s own network settings. If you are using a wireless connection, weak signals or interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones could also be slowing things down. But Internet service providers also advertise higher connection speeds than what you might possibly expect to get in regular use. Many providers give you faster speeds to download data than you get for uploading files to the Internet, but there are ways to test both your download and upload speeds.

One of the best ways to check is to use a Web site that offers to test your connection speed, typically by sending a small bit of data between the site and your computer and clocking the transfer time. There are several such sites around the Web that can be found with a quick search for “Internet connection speed.” Two options are www.speedtest.net, which displays an animation of a speedometer, and the page of broadband tests and tools at www.dslreports.com/tools.

Nokia E90 Communicator

It took Nokia almost 3 years to refresh its Communicator series, which made as some of the best smartphones targeting businessman class, back in 2004-2005. Those that are more used with Nokia's Eseries handsets won't be disappointed either, as the new Nokia E90 Communicator is a strong link between the two business series. Probably the smartphone won't be a huge market success, mostly because its sizes and weight, but it will surely replace successfully many of its co-series brothers such as Nokia 9300 and 9500, Nokia E61 or E65. Especially created to serve businessmen on the go, Communicator series smartphones had also been fitted with their own operating system – Symbian S80 to be able to meet any demands. But time passed and the 'bulky' S80 UI has been replaced with the new Symbian S60 3rd Edition, which is much faster and offers more functionality to the user. For that matter, I consider Nokia E90 being a huge step forward even if it's just because it features the new Symbian 9.2 OS with 3rd Edition S60.

Announced in February 2007, Nokia E90 Communicator has been made available on the market starting June 2007. Those that are looking to replaces their oldish Communicators or simply need an improved business tool will have to pay a high price as the smartphone costs around 1,000 bucks.

That's what many parents are experiencing who aren't getting the right plan when they add their child to their cell phone plan. Many people who sign up for second lines for a their child don't ask all the right questions, like. Do I get charged for sending and receiving text message? Family vacation

The best hotel rates in Mexico come with the most strings attached. Check cancellation policies carefully, and find out if parking is included; take that into account when comparing rates. Check the local calendar to see what major events are happening during your All Inclusive Cancun family vacation . An arts festival can dramatically inflate room rates in an ordinarily sleepy seaside town.

Business travel drops during the summer months, however, which makes this a good time to visit major cities. You can get a lot of luxury for less by booking a bargain summer weekend at a hotel that normally caters to business travelers. Meanwhile, weekends at traditional summer destinations can be ferociously busy, so consider a midweek stay.

The competition has two categories, one for films to be shown on regular screens and the other for films to be viewed on phones. The winning film will receive 500,000 yen (US$4,500). Cell phone carriers can now phase out their analog service

The abandonment of analog TV for all-digital broadcasts that will come next year has gained much attention, while something similar happening now has kept a lower profile. Cell phone carriers can now phase out their analog service, freeing up spectrum for digital communications. Unlike broadcast TV, where the vast majority of sets in use were built for analog service, embracing all-digital service isn't a big deal for cell phones because nearly all wireless customers have had digital handsets for years.

An order adopted five years ago by the Federal Communications Commission allows carriers to phase out their analog service as of Monday. AT&T Mobile and Verizon Wireless are doing that. The other national carriers, Sprint/Nextel and T-Mobile, never offered analog service. Smaller carriers also might phase out analog, although they don't have to. A few folks who held onto their big, old analog phones for a decade or more will just have to get used to a new, sleeker digital model, but their numbers aren't great. But for some niche applications, such as the wireless home-security business, the end of analog transmissions is a big event.

Gold coins with Monex

You must know the important fact that the largest mining companies in the world are not investing in finding more mines when the demand has already outnumber the supply. Instead they are putting more funds in M&A activity. So, gold and silver are good investments in the long run. You can invest in these minerals through well famous and regulated companies like Monex Deposit Company (MDC). They can offer good advice for novice and professionals, and you can buy gold coins or ingots for your convenience.
Gold is definitely a good option to diversify your investments. Remember, real estate and stocks have bad times frequently.

Nokia N82 for blinds or visual impaired persons. Great!

Even those of us who don't gab on cell phones appreciate having one for an emergency. For a blind or visually impaired person, the Nokia N82 promises much more: It's a liberating day-to-day tool that grants access to printed materials not otherwise easily available.

A sightless person can use the phone to snap a picture of a menu, book, printed receipt or business card. Software on the phone processes the words on those items and reads the text aloud in a synthesized voice. The device can even let a blind person know if paper currency is a $5 or a $20 bill.

As you might expect, the candy-bar-shaped Nokia houses an extremely capable digital camera -- 5 megapixels, auto-focusing, high-intensity flash. But it's the character-recognition and text-to-speech software from KNFB Reading Technology that makes it so powerful. KNFB is a joint venture of the National Federation of the Blind and Kurzweil Technologies.

Chinese cell phone companies partnering with global leaders

Chinese cell phone manufacturers are moving into the spotlight as potential partners for Schaumburg-based Motorola Inc.

Some of Motorola's biggest rivals in the handset business, including South Korea's Samsung and LG, have dismissed the idea of buying or partnering with Motorola, which has announced it is considering splitting off its cell phone operation. Analysts think world handset leader Nokia wouldn't be interested, but a Chinese company looking to grow quickly might find Motorola attractive.

Partnering with a global company such as Motorola would give a younger, smaller firm access to larger-scale production and an extensive distribution network in key markets such as the United States.

Walk to charge your cell phone

Charging your cell phone might soon be as simple as taking a walk around the block. Scientists have created a new machine that harvests energy from the movement of the knees while walking. Six volunteers wore the devices on their legs while strolling on a treadmill and were able to produce about five watts of electrical power each. That's enough energy to run 10 cell phones simultaneously. The apparatus captures the energy of a person's movement by coupling an electrical generator to knee motion.

When the wearer extends the knee, a gear on the device turns and spins the generator, which builds up energy. When the knee is flexed, the device turns off so as not to tax the wearer. The machine senses motion and knows when to activate itself. The design allows a person to use the tool without expending much additional energy beyond the normal demands of walking. The researchers measured the volunteers' oxygen intake and carbon-dioxide output to make sure it wasn't strenuous to use.

Work on a similar device built into a backpack was announced in 2005.

Erase your personal data from your cell phone

These days, thousands of cell phones are thrown out every day. Just because you take out that memory card, or SIM card, out of your cell phone - it still contains lots of personal information. But you need to get rid of that data before you discard that phone. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average cell phone is used only 18 months. If you multiply that by about 200 million cell phone users in the U.S. alone, that's a lot of discarded phones. But there are ways you can erase all of the personal data on your phone.

A good place to start is on the internet. There are several websites that have downloadable cell phone eraser data. The websites give you instructions and guide you through the removal of every last piece of information. The process is different for different manufacturers. Once you find yours, you'll have to enter specific codes or even push a reset button.

One more tip: If you send your phone in for repairs and get a refurbished version, make sure it's memory is blank before you start entering your own information.

If there is other information on the phone, you'll want to delete that before entering your own information.
