Communications vs. potholes

Centennial and Nextel cell phone users can now report a pothole on the spot...thanks to Fort Wayne's new cell phone pothole hotline. If you have those two providers all you need to do is pick up your cell phone and dial # 24. Twenty-four hours a day seven days a week the street department will be taking your calls on where the potholes are at. They hope to fix them within 24 hours. The city says it has open offers to all cell phone providers and so far only Nextel and Centennial have come forward to help with the hotline. If you dial # 24 it won't cost you a thing because the cellular providers are handling the costs. If you don't have a cell phone and see a pothole all you need to do is call 427-1235.

Cell phone linked to cancer

Just when you thought it was safe to talk on your cell phone. Now some scientists say there is a chance that talking on a mobile phone for as little as 10 minutes could trigger changes in the brain that are associated with cancer. Researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel discovered that exposure to even low levels of radiation from mobile handsets could interfere with how brain cells divide, thus causing tumors. But the scientists said there was no evidence to suggest a definite link between radiation from mobile phones and cancer. Instead the study merely suggests that certain cells can react to cell phone radiation.

This isn't the first time that studies have implicated cell phones in causing cancer. Back in 2006, the U.S. Federal Drug Administration said it would review wireless-phone safety based on findings in a study conducted by the Swedish National Institute that raised concerns about a heightened risk of brain cancer. Researchers found an increased risk of cancerous tumors growing in people's heads who were heavy cell phone users. In any case, it looks like one more thing I'll have to worry about when it comes to reducing my risk of cancer along with reusing plastic water bottles, microwaving food in plastic containers, and using deodorant with antiperspirant.

Nokia E61i Desing.

This is one of the biggest phones manufactured by Nokia and destined to conquer a specific target on the handset market – businessmen. Apart from the fact that Nokia's E61i looks like big (slim) PIE waiting to be digested, the phone can be easily taken as a miniaturization of a personal computer or a much bigger calculator. It's pretty solid with the back cover looking like a metallic plate and with another metallic part that surrounds the big display.

The only drawback of the metallic material is that it scratches very easily in contact with other hard or metallic parts. If you already own an E61 handset then this is almost no difference in terms of size (117 x 70 x 13.9 mm) or weight (150 grams with battery included). The metallic parts of E61i make it 6 grams heavier than its older E61 predecessor, but this is almost unimportant. The handset is big and heavy there's no doubt about it, but is very pleasant to the touch and fits perfectly in a suit pocket.

Worldwide communications costs

Cell phone call charges average ¥39.4 per minute in Tokyo, the third-highest among major world cities, according to a survey by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry. London has the highest average call charges, equivalent to ¥48.2 per minute, followed by Paris, where the average is equivalent to ¥40.9, the ministry said.

The ministry compared the charges set by leading telecommunications service providers in seven major world cities as of the end of March. The other cities in the comparison were Düsseldorf, Germany, New York, Seoul and Stockholm. The lowest average, equivalent to ¥11.7, was found in New York, where fixed charges for oral communication are widely adopted. Charges averaged ¥19.2 in Seoul, ¥26.3 in Stockholm and ¥34.1 in Düsseldorf. Among other findings in the survey, the cost of using Internet access services based on asymmetric digital subscriber line technology was the lowest in Tokyo for the sixth year in a row.

South Africa Communications policy

Telkom is absolutely terrible. Have a look here [hellkom.co.za] for more info. Telkom have consistently been a stumbling block to technological progress in the country, especially with regards to internet access. Telkom owns all the international links to the rest of the world from SA, and most of the bandwidth and international calls have to be routed through them. In fact, the price of ADSL has been so prohibitive that many individuals have pursued cellular alternatives, paying per MB, for light browsing instead. While it's easy to criticise the private companies who have been managing it, Telkom is a parastatal, and not wholly private; roughly 39% is still owned by the South African government, so I'm fairly certain they weren't too unhappy about the affair. There has been evidence of cronyism at the company, too, most likely as a direct result of this: in 2004 a government pension fund [bbc.co.uk] was used "to buy telecoms shares for a group of former government officials". This was part of the government's Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) requirements that firms need to be 1/4 black owned before 2010, and falls within a pattern shown [csmonitor.com], by 2004 government surveys, that "68 percent of BEE deals went to just 6 black-owned businesses, all of which were owned by top members of the ANC party."

The whole thing stinks, and Saffas get screwed, as usual.

Unlocked the iPhone for use on other GSM carriers

Unlocking a phone isn't illegal. Apple doesn't lose out of this, so I can't see them rushing to redesign the hardware or software. The only loser is AT&T. And one can easily argue that if the provided a good connection product, at a competitive price and backed it up with quality service they'd have nothing to worry about. But, of course, the only reason for all service providers all over the globe to use lock-ins is because the last thing any phone company offers is any of the above.

Apple and AT&T have undoubtedly already discussed what they would do if this happened, as it undoubtedly would, Apple will probably have to pay a fine to AT&T as per contract, or attempt to fix the issue. Most likely though neither side will care much as the majority of users will simply switch to AT&T rather than trying to install an unlocking utility, as this is Apple's whole mantra and reason people buy Apple products, they would much rather pay for convenience and an easy to use device than having to hack, adjust, and tweak it.

Hd film stock footage

High definition is relatively new to the world of theatrical films, so it's still somewhat rare to find a producer who has successfully shepherded hd film stock footage through the production process. But you can spend full time immersed in HD filmmaking, involved in not one but two full-length features in the new medium. While acknowledging important distinctions between working in film and HD, you can note that HD's lower per-minute costs allow more coverage, which can translate into more choices for the editor and potentially better performances in the final film.

According to experts, cost considerations aside, HD has some inherent attributes that make it the medium of choice for certain types of work. The most obvious benefits are in movies with lots of special effects.

Legal way to fight anonymous registration

It's called due process. If you think someone is infringing on your trademark, committing fraud, or some other illegal or actionable offense, then you go before a judge and request the court issue a demand for that information. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's a pain in the posterior. Yes, that is as it should be. The more difficult you make it to pierce the rightful barrier of privacy of an individual, the stronger that barrier is and the less capricious that piercing can be. The courts are the place to go to acquire this information. The Markets make it profitable for legitimate companies to not hide that information.

The ultralow-cost handset

A recent report by ABI Research predicts that more than a dozen handset vendors will ship sub-$50 models by 2008 and almost one out of every four handsets shipping globally by 2011 will be an ultralow-cost handset (ULCH). The ULCH marketplace is currently dominated by Motorola and Nokia, but Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson are showing increasing interest and other smaller vendors including ZTE, Kyocera, Huawei, Haier, Sagem, Ningbo Bird, Philips and Rose Telecom are also beginning to address the market.

These vendors are addressing the market by forming exclusive handset deals with operators, allowing them to save substantial marketing and distribution costs. For example, ZTE and Rose Telecom have been providing ultralow-cost handsets to Reliance Communications, the largest CDMA operator in India. Huawei is providing low-cost CDMA handsets to China Unicom and ZTE, and also has agreements with Vodafone for providing low cost handsets. The research shows that India will be the biggest market in the next five years for ULCH, growing from a little over 9 million handsets in 2006 to more than 116 million handsets in 2011.

Commercial litigation compromises any type of litigation or controversy related to the conduct of business. When you are faced with commercial litigation issues, you need the assistance of experienced commercial litigation attorneys, like simmons jannace stagg

Commercial litigation matters can range from relatively simple, uncomplicated matters, to highly complex matters that could take several years to resolve. Litigation handled improperly can lead to additional unnecessary expense for you and your business. There is not only the expense entailed in losing your case, but there is the added cost of needless delays, caused by work done poorly. Commercial litigation is something that should only be handled by very skilled litigation attorneys.

Registrars are a big part of the spam problem

Registrars are a big part of the spam problem. And the fact that they will sell (or provide freely) registration obfuscation services to withhold meaningful registrant contact data shows that many registrars are still in bed with the criminal spammers. Come on, if you really have some reason to keep your registration data private, there are better ways to do it than letting your registrar do it for you. You could just as well get a PO box and use a free email account somewhere, which would accomplish the same thing but still have some degree of accountability. As it is, registrars have been able to withhold the contact information for their clients and there's been no accountability anywhere.

Ikanos Debuts VDSL2 Gateway Reference Platform Featuring Atheros 802.11n XSPAN Technology

Optimized for rich media services, Ikanos' Fusiv Vx180 is a single chip, multi-mode VDSL2 gateway processor, which provides up to 2.7 GHz of processing power, on-chip voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), virtual private network (VPN) security, routing and bridging, while supporting best-in-class quality of service (QoS) and wire speed performance.
Ikanos selected Atheros' XSPAN dual-band concurrent and dual-band configurable draft 802.11n solutions for the new joint reference platform. Dual-concurrent Wi-Fi is the optimal configuration for gateways as it can support latency-sensitive multimedia applications using the less crowded 5GHz band, and data traffic using the 2.4GHz band. Ideal for home gateway applications, Atheros' 802.11n draft 2.0 technology was designed to provide whole home coverage with significantly increased bandwidth capacity - up to 200 Mbps of real user throughput per band with Atheros' XSPAN with Signal-Sustain Technology(TM) (SST). Only gateways enabled by XSPAN with SST offer industry-leading wireless signal reliability which results from the world's only 3-transmit/3-receive (3Tx/3Rx) MIMO design. The company's innovative triple-radio design delivers higher throughput at greater distances than typical 2x2 MIMO solutions. By doing so, it provides a significant competitive advantage for carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) looking to optimize the end-user experience.

Lapband surgery

Eating is an American obsession that is quickly spreading to other countries.

Diet and exercise are still the best ways to lose weight, but when all else fails, an overweight person can turn to surgery.

Some opt to have gastric bypass surgery, in one form or another. Others are turning to lapband surgery (Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding), a famous surgical practice from Journey Lite facilities. That is not as invasive as the gastric bypass procedures. And, it's covered by most major insurance companies.

This is an option if you have unsuccessfully tried diet and exercise. Surgery is generally the last option but it can works for you.

situations in which law enforcement and other parties have a legitimate right to pierce the anonymity of private registrations

While I consider myself anti-authoritarian, I recognize that there are some situations in which law enforcement and other parties have a legitimate right to pierce the anonymity of private registrations. If someone is operating a site hosting child porn or other illegal materials, the registrar should be required to give up the registrant. Also, consider the case where a domain / site has been hijacked (or reverse-hijacked) by a thief hiding behind proxy services at a different registrar. The victim and victim's registrar cannot reliably identify them, and the Registry Operator won't get involved outside of invoking arbitration. So keep the lawyers out, but establish some authority (Internet version of a FISA court) that can pierce anonymous registrations.

Sagem my850v

Despite being a major player in the UK prepay market, many of you might not be aware that French manufacturer Sagem has also dabbled in the contract arena. Well, once to be exact, with the myx6-2 on Orange back in 2005. Now it’s having its second stab at this monthly gig with the stylish 3G my850v Crystal clamshell, this time exclusively on Vodafone.

The my850v is undoubtedly Sagem’s more desirable handset since the myX-8 (a fantastic handset so shamefully ignored by the UK operators) and it’s a sleek clam that flaunts a smoky mirrored façade, slightly reminiscent of the Sony Ericsson Z610i. Unfortunately this means the front exterior is open to attack from the dreaded finger print smears but its sultry dark navy veneer manages to conceal the worst offenders. This reflective minimalist frontage is disturbed by a small monochrome LCD, touch-sensitive music controls and a faint Vodafone logo.

Each corporation is only required to maintain a registered agent address

In most US states, each corporation is only required to maintain a registered agent address on file with the state, so anyone who needs to contact your organization can do so. The registered agent can be anyone, so for example, you might have your lawyer be your registered agent, and anyone who wants to know who owns the company has to go through him. We've currently got the same system with domain names - your registrar can act as your registered agent, serving as a barrier between the public and you. If someone has a legitimate need to contact you, they can do so through your registrar. If not, they can't. I don't see any reason to change this.

IP Holders want access to WHOIS Data

I think they should roll out something similar to UK domains across on to .coms as well. With a .uk then you have to show your details unless you are a non-trading individual. If you are such an individual then you can opt out of having your details shown and it's free and done by Nominet, not the individual companies you buy domains from. While I can see a reason for companies not to be able to hide their details (it gives you a definite address for them that you can then match to a trading location, assuming its real), I think individuals have a right to not have their details easily available on the 'net for anyone with a vigilante inclination to be able to find and abuse.

Krillion Localization Engine

Product research online often starts with the search engines, but search engines typically are unable to find and deliver results pinpointing specific local stores with specific products consumers are looking for.

However, there is a company called Krillion which own a search engine that scours the Web to find, integrate and present actionable local search results for the ready-to-buy consumer. So, if you are looking for LG Washing Machines to compare prices within 10 miles of your town, the query returns a landing page for each query result dynamically generated, optimized for SEO, and placed into the indexes of the major search engines. The name "silicon evanescent laser" is misleading since the silicon isn't emitting any Light

Researchers at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) have built the world's first mode-locked silicon evanescent laser.
According to TFA, the stimulated emission of light actually takes place in an indium phosphide (InP) laser diode. The laser diode is bonded to a silicon waveguide, which acts like a miniature optical fiber to guide the laser light around the chip. The "evanescence" is because the laser light is evanescently coupled from the laser diode into the waveguide. A proper description of evanescent coupling requires a pretty sophisticated understanding of electromagnetism, but the short version is that if you shine a laser beam parallel and adjacent (within a few microns) of a waveguide or optical fiber, some of the laser light will hop over and start propagating down the waveguide or fiber. In particular, by placing the actual laser parallel to and near a carefully-designed waveguide, you can have almost all of the laser light emitted into the waveguide, even though the constituent atoms of the waveguide are not emitting any light at all! For this reason, I think the name "silicon evanescent laser" is misleading since the silicon isn't emitting any Light.

Motorola lose ground

Nokia tightened its grip on the global mobile phone market in the second quarter of this year, taking advantage of a stumble by Motorola and strong demand from emerging markets around the world. Motorola was the only one of the top five vendors to lose market share when compared against the second quarter of 2006, despite a strategy of cutting prices to save its second-place ranking, according to figures from analyst Gartner. The company ended up with a 14.6 percent market share, barely ahead of third-place vendor Samsung Electronics with 13.4 percent, followed by Sony Ericsson with 9 percent and LG Electronics with 6.8 percent. By contrast, Nokia used its dominant 36.9 percent share of the market to begin selling more expensive products, such as the N95 it launched in March, a high-end phone with features such as built-in GPS, a 5-megapixel camera, and a MP3 music player. The company did stumble earlier this month when it issued a massive cell-phone battery recall after reports of overheating, then committed to offering free replacements for up to 46 million batteries.

Overall, the cell phone market saw sales rise by 17.4 percent to 270.9 million units in the second quarter of 2007, thanks largely to sales growth of 40.7 percent in Asia-Pacific and 24 percent in Latin America. Sales in mature markets were much slower, rising by only 7 percent in North America, 10.3 percent in Japan, and 11 percent in Western Europe.

Coins or ingots for your convenience

I think gold has more room to grow when you compare to the Gold high in the eighties.
And the most important fact you have to remember, the largest mining companies in the world like BHP are not investing in finding more mines when the demand has already outnumber the supply. Instead they are putting more funds in M&A activity. You can invest in gold through well famous and regulated companies like Monex Deposit Company (MDC). They can offer good advice for novice and professionals, and you can buy coins or ingots for your convenience.
Gold is definitely set to head up higher. To give you further assurance, I'm in the Gold run myself.

A 39 year-old man in West London was arrested for dishonestly obtaining free internet access from an unsecured wireless router nearby

Before anyone starts in with the "if the door is open, you can't go into someone’s house anyway" argument, I'm going to point out that most laptops these days auto connect to open connections, or at least do a popup that if the avg user isn't paying attention will connect them when they hit enter. Just like with property, than when rights aren't enforced long enough when people walk on it, it becomes public use land, the same is true of the wireless network. people leaving their networks with SSID broadcast no security is *not* the equivalent of an open, unlocked door on a residence, it's the equivalent of laying out all your stuff in the middle of the street with a sign that says "please take", or at least a path through their land that they never gated and never shooed anyone off of, it's for the public use at that point.

Nokia and Windows together

Nokia would bring Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Live suite of Web services, like e-mail and instant messaging, to many of its cell phones.

Microsoft's services will integrate with Nokia's existing programs allowing users to sync their Windows Live contacts list with the phone's address book or send and receive Hotmail e-mails within Nokia's messaging application.

Owners of Nokia's multimedia phones will be able to download a suite of Windows Live services that include e-mail, instant messenger, contacts list and a blogging and picture sharing site.

The Finnish phone maker plans to preload cheaper models with Microsoft's suite of services next year.

Distance search yellow pages

Internet Yellow Pages are powerful online resources that place the names, locations and phone numbers of product and service providers in front of Internet users throughout the country. Millions of ready-to-buy customers research products and services online to find local providers of what they're seeking. Internet distance search yellow pages advertising is the perfect compliment to a robust advertising program, and it’s free with radiux.

If there are no exact matches for customers’ search words, radiux displays the businesses that match the closest along with the message telling to the customers how their search words were changed to find matching businesses. These changes could include fixing minor spelling errors or finding results for words that match our search words closely but not exactly.

E-mail is more important than phone these days

Research reveals that 100% of the end-users surveyed use e-mail, followed by fixed-line telephones (80%), mobile telephones (76%) and instant messaging (66%). The study points out the three most ubiquitous technologies increase productivity the most. Over 70% of the end-users surveyed say e-mail impacts positively on their productivity, followed by conventional fixed-line telephony (53%) and mobile telephony (52%). From a productivity point-of-view, the research shows that instant messaging, blogs and softphones are considered most disruptive, and could negatively impact productivity if not managed properly.

I send an e-mail. If I were to use regular phone, I have to deal with polite conversation which I may or may not have time for. Not that I don't mind idle conversation, it's just something I don't always want to deal with.

Let's say someone was visiting me and there a traffic advisory, or something else they would need to index later. I would phone first, then text an instruction block to the phone. Same when grocery of component shopping.

And messaging when someone is not around, e-mail is so much better than voice. Mobile phones are not always reliable to relay all the important words, and some people on land lines use really crappy answering machines, but an e-mail will always get the message out.

E-mail is more important than phone these days. That's rather a fact of life. Welcome to the 21st century, where no one has to talk to anyone.

Communications problems in Western Colorado

A problem with Qwest Communications service caused cell phone, Internet and 911 service problems in Western Colorado. Qwest did not know what caused the outage, which began around 8 a.m. and ended about 2:30 p.m. this Monday. Because of the Qwest outage, 911calls were being routed to Pitkin County’s dispatch center. This problem caused that some people had dropped calls and others’ service was completely out.

Qwest sells the use of its cell phone towers to several telecommunications providers and I think the problem is that these towers collapsed for the excessive system demand. These companies should repair all the damages caused to the people and to the authorities.

Internet telephone systems

While internet telephony is not free, it offers very attractive cost savings when compared with traditional telephone systems.

Internet telephone systems (VoIP - Voice-over-Internet Protocol), have four main components: handsets or other end-user devices, a call server or IP-PBX, gateways, and a data network. The handsets can either be existing traditional handsets that are connected to a regular PBX or they can be devices designed specifically for VoIP phone systems usage.

Similarly, the call server or IP-PBX can be software on an existing server or a dedicated IP-PBX. VoIP gateways are used to connect the PBX to the data network. VoIP gateways convert analog voice signals to data packets that can be transmitted over the data network and then reassemble those packets at the other end, turning them back into analog voice signals.

ISP Guarantees Net Neutrality, For a Fee

Net neutrality is not really about the last mile. I used to be a sysadmin at an ISP, and utilization of last mile bandwidth was never the issue. Whoever they are leasing the local loops from doesn't care per so about whether my DSL line is saturated all the time or not. Net neutrality is about load on the backbone carriers' networks, and below that, on downstream ISP networks. It can also be just about extra profits. A couple cases to illustrate each:

1) Simple load. There's an overselling of bandwidth formula by which all ISPs make money. If the aggregate bandwidth of all your customers is X, you don't have to have X amount of backbone bandwidth, because they aren't all online at once, or all fully utilizing their links when they are. You only need some fraction of that amount. You've got this all worked out, but then along comes Youtube, IM with voice, Vonage and other VoIP carriers, Bit Torrent, online music and video stores, etc., and in pretty short order, your average user is consuming far more bandwidth than they used to and your oversell ratio just went out the window. To maintain level of service, you can do a couple of things: the first is to throw a bunch of money at the problem, upgrading your bandwidth, your core and edge routers, the whole nine yards. The trouble is, this is expensive, and while the routers are a sunk cost, bandwidth is a running cost. Profit margins are very thin for ISPs, generally, so to remain profitable you would have to raise prices. But Internet access is very price sensitive, and the first one to raise prices is going to see customers walking, in large numbers. The other option is traffic-shaping. You prioritize some traffic over others, and put the bandwidth-hogging stuff like Youtube, BT, online music and vidoe stores, etc, at the end of the bandwidth line. Unless, of course, Google, the stores, etc., are willing to pay you money. Now you have a way to finance that infrastructure without raising rates. Net neutrality is dead, but you're still alive. And Bit Torrent? Oh well, nobody's paying there, so BT is just going to have crappy performance on your network.

2) Greed. I'm a big ISP. I want to get into the VoIP business for myself, so I do. My service is super, and it's cheaper than the phone company. My customers like this. Trouble is, there are VoIP companies out there competing with me, like Vonage and Packet 8. Their service isn't as good as mine (I used to use Packet 8, now use Vonage, and in between had a cable company's VoIP service, so I'm talking from experience here; but Vonage is pretty good), but it's almost as good and it's over 1/3 cheaper. A lot of customers like that even better. What to do? Ah, I know! Traffic shaping! Packets for my own VoIP service get routed at a higher priority than other VoIP services. No their service is no longer almost as good as mine. My customers may or may not really like this, if they even pin it on me, but now my service is worth the premium I charge for it b/c I made the others look bad. Net neutrality is dead, and I can no longer claim with a straight face to be a common carrier like a telco, but I'm making more money and can use it to finance the greater bandwidth demands from case 1, above (along with the fees I'm socking the content providers with to not be traffic-shaped on my network).

This, then, is the problem facing Copowi: They may practice complete net neutrality within their network, consisting of their edge, their core, and the local loops they are leasing. However, if their upstream (be it a major backbone carrier or just a larger ISP who in turn connects to a backbone provider) doesn't practice net neutrality, it doesn't really matter much that Copowi does, except on traffic local to their network, which isn't a whole lot.

Cell phone conversations in the bus

Cell phone users might have to think twice before dialing if the area's bus agency bans cell phone conversations. The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission is considering a change to its policy that currently allows riders to talk on cell phones only when it's truly necessary.

PRTC operates OmniRide, OmniLink, OmniMatch and Metro Direct buses. PRTC hosted a survey online this week asking for riders' opinions on a few different proposals. The survey asked if the policy should not change, if calls should be limited or if cell phone conversations should be banned altogether. Another option would prohibit cell phones on OmniRide and Metro-Direct buses only when they are traveling on the interstate HOV lanes. The current policy of allowing only necessary calls has been in place for more than five years.

iPAQ 514

There is nothing special about HP's iPAQ 514 design as it looks exactly like a standard mobile phone. HP stated that design is not what we should be looking for, because the smartphone simply address business users who are mostly interested in features and less in looks. The bulky design doesn't bring anything innovative, rather making the device look like an obsolete brick. Still, we should look into the "heart" of the smartphone to find what it can really do and whether or not it’s a really helpful tool for business users.

HP also offers live support for users of iPAQ 514, which is accessible through the HP Help and Support found in the Main menu. Actually, before accessing the support line you can take a look at the HP iPAQ Quickstart, a nice tutorial also accessible from the Main menu, that will help you learn how to better use your device. Businessmen can also make use of the Internet Calling feature that will enable customers to make calls over the Internet.

Communications technology continues to transform how we do business

Cash may be king, but communications can make or break a business. From mom and pop shops, to online retailers and billion-dollar conglomerates, communications technology continues to transform how we do business.

Just four years after the invention of the telephone in 1876, there were nearly 48,000 phones in use in the United States. Telefax, which predates the phone by nearly 20 years, didn't catch on until the 1970s, but today many businesses seal deals with faxed documents. Businesses around the world send billions of e-mails daily, and a Web page is virtually a requirement of doing business these days.

LG KE850 Prada

Besides the iF Design Award prize won in 2006, LG's Prada also won 'Best of the Best' red dot Design Award in 2007. I believe this says everything about the phone's design which is as stylish as can be. While two thirds of the sold phones are clamshells, the candybar form seems to be a little bit unpopular, but LG Prada comes to contradict these statistics. The phone is slim and the no-button interface with the entire phone face covered by a touch-sensitive screen may look very much like Apple's iPhone, but people must understand that besides the design you can't really compare the two devices.

LG KE850 comes with an unusually big TFT touchscreen (240 x 400 pixels resolution) that supports up to 256k colors. The screen won't respond to any commands if you use a stylus or other objects and you will only be able to handle it with your fingers. This is the first handset that relies entirely on the use of the touchscreen for accessing the phone's functions. LG warned users that the phone will not work in hot or humid conditions, but neither in case you're wearing gloves. Thanks to the capacitive technology, the display responds very quickly being also quite accurate; however, it might be a pain to handle for people with wide fingers. The most annoying thing by far is the scrolling, which is very hard to execute, unless you're using the dual volume key. Outdoor use of the phone can mean trouble for you especially if you're looking to initiate calls, because it's almost impossible to see anything on the screen in sunlight. There's still a chance that you can use the phone on sunny days, but you have to protect the display from direct sunlight. Word of advice – protect your screen with your life as it scratches very easily even if you're using it with gloves (which you cannot, as I’ve already told you).

Amateur radio

Communicating by ham radio today is a little like hooking up a black-and-white TV and antenna to watch your Friday night shows. In an era of simple, swift, worldwide communication with cell phones, instant messaging and Internet calling, amateur radio seems like a quaint hobby.

Amateur radio used to be the only way to communicate cheaply with people around the world. In the 1950s and 1960s, ham radio attracted a lot of young boys who liked the mechanics and being able to talk to people thousands of miles away. They studied technical manuals and learned Morse code so they could get their own amateur radio license and call sign. Many of them went on to become engineers. But today, kids can use computers and cell phones to do much of what ham radio does.

Things to do with your cell phone

Remember where you parked: Take a sec to snap a picture when you get out of your car and save minutes (or hours) canvassing a crowded lot later.

Record your shopping list: When you send someone on an errand, pictures show exactly what to pick up.

Google Calendar sends free customized reminders to your phone.

Send a text message to GOOGLE (466453) with a search query, (try “weather” and your ZIP code), and the search company will text you right back with the free results, including business listings and movie times.

Document the hours of your hangouts: You’ll never have to wonder when your favorite restaurant opens and closes again.

Grab that jerk’s license plate: Or document your fender bender. Just wait till you’re safely off the road.

Rumors about laws against talking on the phone while driving

A new e-mail was circulating that sent some cell phone users and motorists into a panic. Talking on the phone while driving is part of the US lifestyle, but a circulating e-mail said it could be illegal without a special device. The e-mail said cell phone use must be hands-free while driving or the driver will receive a $285 ticket.

When the e-mail was traced to the beginning, the originator said she had been hacked. This is a form of terrorist, when you receive this type of information, contact your cell phone company or consult the news. This type of rumors works for criminals.

Personal injury lawyer

If you need a legal assistance, it is a good idea to shop around. The first step is to compile a list of names. The recommendation of someone whose judgment you trust is an excellent place to start your search. You may want to begin by asking relatives, friends, clergy, social workers, your doctor, or internet for recommendations. Often those persons can refer you to someone who has provided similar legal services for them. Remember that you need to know more about the lawyer than simply that the person is a good attorney. In example, you may need a specialized lawyer like corpus christi personal injury lawyer. Ask the persons making the recommendation for specific information about the type of legal help the lawyer provided them and how their case was handled.

LG KU580 Desing

LG KU580 was announced in April 2007 as a Vodafone exclusive mobile phone which cannot be bought from another mobile network operator. Even if the design of KU580 doesn't go too far from its predecessors, it still has a different look that sets it apart from the entire collection. The same touch-sensitive keys that made the entire Chocolate collection famous is present in the KU580 model, but this time there is no responsive delay to the keys. The handset has a smaller display than other Chocolates, but this is backed by a very good resolution. In fact, everything is smaller compared to the other models of the collection, including the touch-sensitive keys placed right under the screen.

Electronic greeting card for cell phones

Text messages and voice mail are so five minutes ago. Next time your cell phone beeps, it may mean you've received an electronic greeting card. Brooklyn-based American Greetings has launched a new mobile e-card service allowing subscribers to send greeting cards to cell phones. On phones with the right capabilities, the cards materialize in full color and with animation. Actually sending a mobile card takes a little of both. The service, currently in a testing phase, is available only to American Greetings subscribers, who, for $13.99 a year, are allowed three mobile cards and an unlimited number of e-cards. An additional $11 provides access to the company's "Create & Print" service.

The iphone revolution?

The iPhone is a really functional device that sucks a lot less than so many other phones, and fans of dynamic symbolic UI finally have a device that doesn't wimp out in presenting us with a virtual interface. Plus the screen DPI is so high it actually makes reading really small text practical so the screen is much more usable than you would think only from looking at the size in specs. Furthermore it's also a device with a huge amount of potential, in part from Apple but also in part from hacking. And as we have seen with the Apple TV and other devices, Apple devices are generally hackable and Apple doesn't push back the way Sony or Nintendo or Microsoft do. I don't quite know if revolution is the right word either, but it sure is a breath of fresh air in a world that until now has been a fetid swamp.
