An international cyber-crime center

Legislators in Canada are considering a bill to set up an international cyber-crime center, a kind of Interpol for the Internet, in Calgary, Alberta. The private members bill, currently before the Alberta Legislature, would allow the establishment of the Global Center for Securing Cyberspace in Calgary.

The center would not be a law enforcement agency, but rather a non-governmental collaborative enterprise combining research, advocacy and policing efforts. The center would reach out to form partnerships with law enforcement agencies in Canada and elsewhere. A statement from the association described the proposed entity as "an international center for the coordination and advancement of public safety, intelligence gathering, and government response related to the problem of cyber-crimes such as child exploitation, financial systems fraud, threats to critical infrastructure, intellectual property and identify theft."
